The self-limiting effect of breaking promises

First, we scramble to bring in the work by making promises to the people we seek to serve.

Then the work comes in and we continue with the same format of making the same promises to continue to bring in the work.

Then we have too much work for the time that we have available and we either decrease the quality of the work or keep people waiting.

Generally, both of those strategies are breaking the initial promise that we gave to the individual to get the work in the first place and less people access the work.

Then we go back to a situation where we have no work and then we repeat the process.

Setting up a system that allows us to keep our promises over time is perhaps the best way to grow a business and a reputation and anything else that might be valuable.
