In the quest to make something special you must first understand that special is not routine.
There must come a point where it is not special anymore for Ed Sheeran to stand out in front of 60,000 people because he has done it so many times. There would come a point if you played football at Old Trafford every single night of the week that it would not be ‘special’ anymore. In the events that we look forward to that we crave that make us happy or excited or often ones that happen irregularly some of the best ones are once in a life time so the anticipation is enormous but the disappointment that it’s over is huge as well.
When Andy and I set up The Campbell Academy properly 3 years ago we were very aware of the fact that we would not be able to deliver every single session of teaching because very quickly they would not be special anymore. There is no point in a lecturer or a teacher standing up in front of you who is demotivated and fed up, it will only serve to teach you to be demotivated and fed up.
With that in mind we knew very early on that we needed to bring together a faculty of people who are committed, ethical, honest, enthusiastic and inspirational, we very much feel we have done that.
We also divided to concur, taking different responsibilities for different parts of the curriculum within The Academy. One of mine is the Business Course. During the first sitting of that course at the beginning of the year we had 6 practices and we took the time and asked permission to gather some testimonial information about how people felt about the course. You can view a couple of them here and here.
Obviously in my wildest dreams that course would become hugely successful and people would be banging down the door to get there, but the fact is we will only ever be able to provide that course to 12 practices a year in one sitting (six 2 day modules). Even if we get more and more interest in this we will not be able to scale it because the nature of the course is that it’s bespoke and not scalable. This means if the course did become successful we would have to shut the doors on people who wanted to come and ask them to try again next year. This seems like a counterintuitive business philosophy where everywhere you look everybody wants to do more and more of the same things for greater and greater profit but it turns out it’s really quite effective. So the punch line for this blogs post is that the Business Course for 2018 is full. Tom, Andy, Hayley and I intended to launch this within the next couple of weeks to attract attention and collect some bookings but it turns out as we got everything ready to do that the course was full. We will not be able to add any extra places next year and I’m sorry about that, so if you are interested in doing this (and it is a great course I promise) then drop us an email and we will put you down on the waiting list to start in February 2019.
