Back out the way we came in after a night under canvas on the Serengeti - mental.
The sand again, the bloody sand, made it through without going down, but as we waited for some guys, I got eaten alive by some insects of some kind!!
That’s a big black toe, skinned knee and 1000 bites
“You are in Africa Mate!”
Dumitru is our alpha. We had never met, but he is an awesome Guy from Romania originally. He can ride a bike almost as well as Alex J (but not as good as Louis D); he is like a caged animal in this group, desperate to put the pedal down. He has a live 360 camera on a stem on the back of the bike to film some amazing shots, and we have had some great fun with me (completely unsuccessfully) trying to hold his wheel on gravel tracks and tarmac and getting a little permission to range forward at times. We did a little of that today, and he pulled our group home to another tented lodge village by 1 pm for the 70k, which is good here!!
Tomorrow is the last day of riding, a hard half day for some of the guys here (hard enough for me, too).
It's 3,000 ft of climbing in 40K, like a little time trial, maybe. It takes us up to the Ngorrogorro crater at lunchtime. We will have the afternoon there to try and see some big beasts, then we say goodbye to the guide team.
A few of them stick around to go to Mwanza and meet the team there, but the rest are home on Saturday.
One day left…one big finish.
