It seems to me that more and more people struggle to deal with unexpected, unpredictable, or unplanned things.
It seems to me that the world moves towards a situation where everybody wants comfort all the time, people want abundance, not just enough of everything, but too much, and people want safety, security, and warmth.
I don't think the world is like that, I don't think it ever has been, I don't think it ever will be, I just think that what's happened is we've stopped practising dealing with unexpected and therefore our unexpected dealing with muscles have withered and are now no longer useful, or certainly as useful as they should be.
That's a cliche that seems to me to be more prevalent, among younger members of the society, sort of 18 to 25 year olds, the people who turn up for work 3 days in a row and then say, "oh, that's too hard, I'm not coming back", the people who don't want to work full time or don't understand what it takes to build a life, the people who have children and then say it's really hard having children, it's wrecked my life or any number of other things along these lines.
It's possible to flip the narrative, unexpected is good, it's rich, it's interesting, it's, well, unexpected.
Takes a bit of practise, I think, to reframe the mindset, to accept things as a challenge in a good way, instead of thinking that anything to do with change is a disaster.
