Shared values

Generally, I want to work with people and spend time with people who share the values that I have, or at least I think I have, and I want to spend less time or no time with people whose values are counter to mine.

That's the same at work with our partners and the people who supply us; it's the same with our team and our patients; it's the same with my friends, although not quite so much the same as my family because I'm a little bit tighter down to that.

The problem is that when you're forced to work with people who have values contrary to yours, it's exhausting, and you have to make up stories pretending to yourself that you're actually doing the right thing.

There's obviously a little bit of leeway here, and there isn't there, but at some point, there's a breaking point, and then you cannot work or be with the people again.

Once you cross the line, the door slams shut.

It's hard to come back from values that are not shared.
