Prodding the sore bit

Humans have an innate ability to continually test if their injury has healed or not.

I’m sure you know how that goes.

Sore shoulder, prod it to see if it’s still sore, still sore, make it more sore by prodding it, and repeat the cycle.

This is a desperate need for reassurance that all is well, it’s a form of assurance.

Most of the time, better to just get on and to not make things worse by investigating the thing that’s already bad.

Put in place your strategy to fix it (rest, medicine, ignoring) and let it work before you test again much later on.

Repeated testing takes away the opportunity to work by stealing time.

It’s a form of hiding.
