On the subject of value

One of the greatest myths in business that I have seen is the continuing belief that everybody thinks that everybody else wants everything for the least amount of money.

No one wants cheap, everyone wants value.

There is an old reverberating sexist meme that says that men will pay £2 for a £1 item that they want whereas women will pay £1 for a £2 item that they don’t want.

It’s not universally true but it highlights the point.

It doesn’t matter how much something costs if you perceive a value greater than that, which you paid. That can be for the cheapest five-for-one basic offer in the supermarket or the most expensive holiday on earth.

Creating value is the game, not creating cheap.
