On Friday afternoon two weeks ago, I was still on holiday.
I rarely answer my phone for work calls when I'm on holiday because I have an out-of-office and it can be picked up somewhere else.
But on the Friday afternoon, I was driving to a rubbish little golf club in Nottingham to play rubbish golf with my son Callum because we are both utterly rubbish at golf.
We were looking forward to having a fun afternoon to see who could lose the most balls when the phone rang, and it was the head of marketing at Straumann UK.
Guy, the head of marketing, asked if I wanted to take a call the following week about potentially being introduced as one of the CoDE Straumann practices.
Straumann instigated CoDE, a global initiative approximately two years ago to develop a network of outstanding educational practices worldwide.
Not exclusively for one practice per country, but mostly so.
The CoDE network is expanding to 31 teaching institutions worldwide with some extraordinary benefits for the participants.
It gives us the opportunity to share thoughts, ideas and network with some of the best educational institutions that Straumann has to offer.
It allows us connection with like-minded individuals and also the opportunity to publish our work in lots of different places and to trial new materials for the benefit of patients.
There are many benefits to being part of CoDE, and the website is here.
It's such a privilege and such an honour to be part of something like this that it almost took my breath away on Friday, and I was so glad that I took the telephone call.
For the direction of travel of The Campbell Clinic and my work with the ITI in the Academy as the editor-in-chief and through the Education Committee, this will tie up beautifully for the next 5 to 10 years of everything we're going to do.
What it means is that there will be greater exposure to our courses, both face-to-face and online and hopefully, a greater appeal for international delegates to travel to The Campbell Clinic, something that we have plans to work on moving forward quite considerably.
It's another extraordinary opportunity that has come out of the carnage of trying to build a practice, which seemed almost impossible in May 2020 but which now, when almost anybody comes, raises eyebrows and creates further opportunities to move us to an even better place.
