Companionship and honesty

On Saturday night I was out with some friends that I have not been out with for ages.

I literally haven’t been out with just the pair of them for years, although I have seen them round and about.

I have known them since I was younger, much younger and when circumstances were different and I was reminded while I was talking to Dave, about that line from the Baz Luhrmann song.

The older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.”

It took a few minutes (but not long at all) until the four of us were able to share the tough stuff that’s going on and the difficulty and realised, that although the narrative was slightly different, the issues were just the same.

That is one of the most important parts of therapy, one of the most important things that you can do.

Honestly sharing the journey and the difficulty and the trouble is what makes it easier, not just for you, but for the person you’re speaking to.
