The headline first thing this morning on the BBC web page was the fact that the A-level results were out in England, and more pupils than ever got their first-choice course at university.

Congratulations!!

Is it just me?

What the f*ck is the point of pushing people into university courses when there are no jobs when they come out of university for those courses?

Even for the people who got their vocational place, let's say midwifery, or nursing, or my own daughter for physiotherapy, there are no jobs.

Rosie applied for a physiotherapy job on the rotation at Queen's Medical Centre recently. The advert was open for less than 48 hours, and 140 applicants applied for two places.

The waiting list for a physiotherapy appointment at Queen's is over 16 weeks, but they're not appointing.

Even if you got on the rotation as a band 5, there's almost no chance you'll progress to a band 6.

The same is true for paramedics, midwives, and nurses.

The newspapers tell us that graduate jobs in London, in things like law or consulting, or economics or banking, are down by 33%. People say it's AI that's causing the problem, other people, the national insurance rise, the cost of employing or the change to the law.

The fact is that we are in an employment crisis.

As usual, technology outstrips politics, although we did see this coming for 2,3,4 years, and we did nothing about it.

And so what do we do with these young guys who celebrate today, go to university, take a lot of ketamine and coke, drink 5 pound rounds (5 drinks for £5) play some sport, do some studying, come out with a degree with no real experience of working, and then realise that they don't have any job.

A lot of the guys come out and decide nowadays that they don't want to work full-time, or they want to travel instead.

Note to self, United Kingdom, our economy is completely f*ck*d.

We need to rethink this really carefully, but really, really quickly, we need a new invention and a new system, and we need to give people the chance to work for a living, and we need to teach them how to do it.
