I met a guy on the dog walk on Friday; it was fascinating. He'd worked in insurance, buying and selling businesses, he knew my old neighbour, he had an opinion on lots of things and so I was keen to listen, particularly on the things related to the environment, the locality of where I've moved to my new house, the village, the people around it. He had lots of opinions on lots of things.

It's potentially good information, this (or potentially not), but it's interesting because I started to think, should I trust you? Should I not trust you? Should I even bother to listen to you? (Yes, this conversation is going on in my head while he's speaking, and I'm managing to take in what he's saying.)

And then he laughed at me and said, he'd just finished his 4th marriage, thank God for that. I said, "Have you found out what's causing the problem?" and he said, "Yes, women". I realised that the advice from this source, through this prism, from this angle, was probably not the type of advice that I would need to take.

There's a difference between information and advice. Some of the information that he told me was useful, but some of the advice he gave me was not so much.

Careful where you get your advice, usually best if it matches your values.
