Last one as you go back to work, to give yourself a little bit more time, a little bit more peace and a little bit more space.

First thing to know is that if you have an IPhone you can turn it on to do not disturb and you can set the do not disturb in settings to still allow some calls from your most important people. Maybe your Wife, your Kids or your Mum, so you know that anybody that is really important can contact you and everybody else can (at least for a short while) can go to hell.

Turn off notifications, that is a big one, you don’t need notifications on your phone, I promise I turned them off two years ago.

You can check your phone as regularly as you like but you do not need notifications, the only thing that comes up on my phone is a call or a text and I am thinking about turning texts off now, but I don’t need to because I put it on do not disturb.

Next, look at the battery section of your IPhone (there will be a way on Samsung too) it will tell you your phone usage, it is staggering and horrible when you look at it to show you what you actually spend your time on and how much time you spend on it.

Next, remove social media apps from your phone, go on… I dare you. Leave them on your computer or your tablet, etc and watch what happens.

Once you give up social media on your phone, you will never want to have it back because the preserved advantages of social media do not out way the massive disadvantages of having them.

If you’re getting ready for the over-whelm of January and you don’t know how you’re going to cope, start by giving yourself more time by turning your phone down.
