The course moves from the fundamentals of implant dentistry into treatment planning, surgical skills, restorative workflows and supervised clinical experience.
The opening days set out how the course works, what to expect from the clinical days, and how to use the ITI curriculum and Straumann mentoring scheme. You will also cover dental implant marketing and the essential foundations of implant dentistry, including anatomy, wound healing, implant design, dental materials, medical considerations and pharmacology.
These days focus on radiographic assessment, CBCT interpretation and the practical surgical skills needed for straightforward implant treatment. You will work through CBCT planning, flap design, suturing, atraumatic extraction, ridge preservation and guided surgery, with hands-on exercises using pig jaws, suture pads and surgical models.
This section looks at how to assess implant patients properly, identify risks, classify case complexity and build a restorative-led treatment plan. You will then move into surgical planning with the Straumann Implant System, including implant selection, drilling protocols, implant placement and an introduction to guided bone regeneration.
The first clinical day takes place in Glasgow. Delegates bring their own patients and carry out straightforward implant placements under the supervision of the faculty team.
The restorative block covers how implants return from surgery and how to restore them predictably. You will look at single tooth restorations, abutment and material selection, analogue and digital impressions, fitting implant-retained crowns, laboratory communication, occlusion and the principles of full-arch prosthetics.
Delegates return to Glasgow for a second supervised clinical day, building on their first placement experience with further guidance, support and feedback from the faculty team.
The final clinical day gives delegates another opportunity to place implants under supervision, consolidate their skills and leave the course with greater confidence in straightforward implant treatment.
The final day covers long-term implant maintenance, risk assessment, peri-implant disease and the role of the wider dental team in implant care. Delegates also sit the ITI Foundation Level Certificate in Implant Dentistry and finish by developing a clear roadmap for their next steps.
Year One delegates consistently highlight the quality of teaching, the supportive environment and the confidence they gain throughout the programme.
The level of teaching is excellent, and their passion to pass on the knowledge, skills and experience to other colleagues is second to none. In addition, the course candidates were wonderful, motivated, friendly, and very supportive, which made the whole learning process a true pleasure.
The facilities are outstanding, and the whole team's experience and organisation are second to none. I was so impressed with the overall experience that I've now signed up for Year Two.
