Tiredness is an attitude...

… No, it isn't, but laziness is a habit.

Last week at work was mental.

The week before, not much less mental.

I arrived home on Friday evening after doing a live surgery on the sinus grafting course (which was hugely difficult).

Not only was the surgery complicated, but I was talking to people while I was doing it and knew that there were 16 highly paying people upstairs waiting to see it and waiting for me to explain why I'd done what I had done and how I got out of it.

Then in the afternoon we freestyled through questions and answers with an extremely intelligent and talented group of dentists. It’s tiring, and a tiring way to end a really busy two weeks.

I'd been out 3 nights that week with work.

This is not a complaint in any way, I am the master of my own destiny. I choose my own schedule.

What I would say though, is that working hard is a muscle that you can develop, but like all muscles, it's easy to overwork it.

I arrived home on Friday night, only to find out that I was heading off to a party that I didn't know anything about with my wife. Luckily for one reason or another, we ended up coming back early from that. But the following day, my wife and daughters were away for the whole of Saturday. And it was difficult for me to move anywhere.

They called me as they came home from the European Equestrian three-day event Championships at Blenheim in Oxfordshire, asking me if I wanted to go out for tea. I said “I didn't”. I didn't want to speak to anyone really. I wanted to sit down with my dogs and eat comfort food and not talk.

Tiredness is not an attitude.

Laziness is a habit.

I remember learning about infinite scroll on your phone and how it drags you into things that you're not supposed to do. I know that looking at series on Netflix automatically clicks on to the next episode, so it steals your time away.

We can always say that we are overtired, we can always say that we have no energy. But the flip side of that coin is that it's possible to go too far.

Sometimes it's necessary just to sit with your dogs, not speaking to someone, eating junk food. Just to get you back to where you need to be.
