It's one thing wanting something to be better, and there's one thing saying that it will be better, but it is altogether another thing to make it better.

In a little anecdote I heard from someone the other day, they were explaining to me that they were at a conference for a large dental corporate organisation who have decided that they're going to increase the value of their business by 33%. In order to do this, they have to increase the profitability of the business by 33%, and they're not going to increase their turnover by 33%.

And therefore, the only way they can do that is to slash their costs to the bone.

The same thing happened last week when the NHS announced their rescue plan for dentistry, it is a beautiful plan to increase access to urgent care and to improve the contract for the treatment of patients with gum disease and active caries ( 41% of the adult population in the United Kingdom have active caries, according to the Adult Dental Health Survey and that's the worst since 1990) and so this wise and great plan that's been devised to rescue the NHS comes with approximately rounded down to the nearest 00 pounds of extra investment.

And so what do you think will happen there then?

What will happen there is that money will be redirected from one part of the NHS budget, which is already pretty bad, to another part to make it slightly better, making the other part bad, making the overall thing bad.

Same thing in healthcare.

Same thing in corporations.

Same thing everywhere.

You can't just polish a turd and think that you'll get something other than s**t.
