It turns out the older I get, the more everything in life is a metaphor for everything else.
Before I start here, though, and to shamelessly plug the Just Giving link for my ride in Tanzania, it is here, if you want to help support Bridge to Eight (and every single penny of your donation goes to them). I'd love you to help. Thanks.
I've got one bag to take to Tanzania.
It's a a carnac cycling bike that I've taken on lots of different cycle trips.
I've got more luggage allowance, but I'm not taking any more ( the only other thing that I'll take is kit to donate, is surgical kit to donate to Doctor Chico) and so I've got all of these things I want to take, need to take, have to take, would like to take and only so much room to take.
As we live in a world where even more and more abundance exists, more takeaways, more streaming, more digital media, more posts, more everything, more and more, it becomes so super important to understand that a bag is only so big.
The contents of my bag will be roughly similar and entirely different to everybody else's bag. If I've forgotten something or didn't pack it this time, then I'll have to figure it out and make do. If I've taken too much, put something in my bag that I don't use or I haven't used, I'd have to rethink that.
The final thing is that once I'm finished (and I've done this for years), I'll look at the list of the stuff I put in the bag and refine it for the next time I do something like this.
Everything's a metaphor.
I'm excited about going to Tanzania, but I will forget something.

Colin Campbell, Chris Barrow, and an intrepid group of dentists will be cycling across the plains of Tanzania from Kilimanjaro in early February 2026. If you would like to support the charity, Bridge to Aid, and this extraordinary challenge, please click here.
Thank you for your generosity.
