Second up in these daft little writings over these 12 days is the most extraordinary surprise of many years of going to Cinema club with Stuart.
I'm pretty sure Cillian Murphy's first film after Oppenheimer was my choice just because it was him, but I watched the trailer and had to see it, probably because of my background of being brought up as a Catholic.
If you look at the producers of this film, it's extraordinary: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, people like that.
But the question is, why would Murphy have done a film like this, so seemingly small and insignificant, after something that was such an extraordinary blockbuster in Oppenheimer?
I believe this is what they call a passion project in the trade. Watch the trailer, and you'll see why it was filmed at minimal expense in Wicklow, Ireland, about the nuns and what they did all the way up to 1998.
The script at the end of the film, the final scene with the writing that tells you the message, is a showstopper.
It's one of those films that I came out of the cinema wondering whether I liked it or not, and then it grew and grew and grew for days and days after.
It's one of the best ones we've ever seen in Cinema Club.
If you haven't seen it, you should see it, but don't expect a happy ending.
