Lots of people were scared yesterday when they woke up and saw the news, perhaps more scared than they were the day before, concerned about what will happen next, what will happen in the years to come, worried that things seem out of control or unpredictable or distant.

The truth is, though, that the world is no different today than it was last Thursday.

It's still unpredictable, wild, weird, and hard to see what's around the corner.

I watched the extraordinary full-length interview with Chris Hoy (honestly, and I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon here; I have been a huge fan of Chris Hoy for many years. I met him in 2011 and spoke to him).

In the years that I've followed Chris, I've become obsessed with controlling the controllable; it's how I adapt my strategy of putting things in a box of compartmentalisation because if I can't control it, there's really no need to worry about it.

And so I think that's easily how we cope with the fact that the world seems different at the end of this week than it does at the start.

Just control your controllables.

The fact is you have no other choice but to do that anyway.

If you want another couple of helping hooks, be kinder and try your best. That's really all you have to do, and everything will be ok until it isn't, but that's the way the world goes, and that's how life is.

So, take a deep breath, enjoy that you are here, and control the things you can.
