A little heads up for anyone who has either been to Master Classes that we have provided before, or is interested in the Master Class concept that we provide as part of The Campbell Academy.

When the academy was first set up Andy and I were very keen to provide a pathway all the way through implant dentistry; from people who wanted to start out to people who wanted to continue to learn at complex levels when they were already high level practitioners. I believe we have really achieved this in the time we’ve spent setting the academy up properly and establishing it. One of the real highlights was to see Gregor McGlashan and Anna McDonagh come to speak on our Year Implant Course this year after having been delegates on courses previously.

We understood from the outset though, that once people had exited their complex training there was still a real requirement to continue to learn and continue to explore, as the subject is just too big. That’s where the Master Class concept came from. Over the years we have managed to have some pretty big hitting names including Danny Buser, Thomas von Arx, Michael Bornstein, Daniel Thoma and various European ‘superstars’. This year we have expanded the topics again to things we are really interested in and things we think will be helpful.

In the first instance we have Adam Glassford coming to provide a sedation update. Adam is renowned for his sedation courses based out of Yorkshire but has been all over the UK providing sedation and update courses. We wanted to do this 'The Campbell Academy way' so Adam will come for a day to provide a sedation update course for anyone who is interested in this. It’s at a fantastic venue, will be a great update course and is a chance to meet some of the guys who are already entrenched in the Master Class programme with TCA. The details are here

The second Master Class is one very close to my heart. We have managed to secure the services of Professor John Gibson. John has been a huge influence in my career from the time I first met him in 1993 at Glasgow Dental School on returning from my elective in Dallas. He had come straight out of medicine to be a Registrar in Oral Medicine and was the reason that, initially in my career, I was desperate to follow the Oral Medicine pathway. John is now Professor of Medicine in relation to dentistry in Glasgow but also in his ‘spare time’ is the Chairman of Dental Protection. John will provide a Master Class for medicine in relation to dentistry which is something that we can never get enough of and will discuss the usual controversial, difficult topics of medical histories and potential medical complications in implant dentistry for a day. In the evening John will provide an ITI Study Club on consent in implant dentistry - it’s hard to see anyone better to do that than someone who was Chairman of Conduct at the GDC before becoming Chairman of the Board of Dental Protection. The details are here

Numbers are limited as they always are on our courses so let us know if you want to come. As far as the ITI Study Clubs are concerned, you’re able to go to two free of charge to see what they’re like before you become a member so if it’s something that you want to experience then let us know.
