'Good or rich' is a motto to stand against mediocrity.
Many people that you may admire for the things that they have done or achieved started out trying to be good, and many of those people became rich as a side effect of being good.
Some of those people then became mediocre as they tried to protect their rich at the expense of their being good.
Only a few of those people got richer and richer by being better and better.
The problem is that we are hardwired for protection, so when we get something, we modify our behaviour to keep it, even though it was the previous behaviour that we exhibited that got it in the first place.
The alternative is to be brave, have insight, and be prepared to lose.
It's okay to take two steps back to continue to be good because for most of us (although I appreciate not all of us), being rich never really feeds our soul but being good does.
For many years in my profession, I have seen what seems like the majority of people strive to be rich.
What happens when they get rich is they then try to be seen to be good and get frustrated when no one gives them the 'respect' that they feel they deserve.
Very few guys I've ever seen have managed to be good and rich have managed to be exceptional in all areas, including wealth generation.
It's an interesting concept to think about. One thing kicks out another, and so often, it's like a set of scales being really, really good over here affects your ability to be really, really rich over there.
Worth thinking about as you start your next project.
What are you trying to achieve, excellence or wealth?
You're unlikely to get both at the same time quickly.
