The team-building game is common purpose; it's not really any more complicated than that. It's bringing together a group of people who see the direction that everybody's headed in, who can see their contribution to the overall plan, and who can make it, and then celebrate getting it.
It's a common purpose.
It trips off the tongue, but it's much harder than it sounds.
Underneath, everyone has their own agenda, their mortgage to pay, the family to look after, and holidays to go on.
Trying to drag everything together into one linear line where everyone fights in the one direction for better; that's the job of the person or people at the top.
Identifying, visualising, and vocalising the common purpose is one of the most important things you can do, particularly when you get to a team now that's nearly 60 and continuing to grow.
Any stray guys around the edges will hold you back like an anchor.
Trying to keep everybody on the bus, that's the job.
