Collaboration, professionalism and the ADI Congress

In these pages over the past few years I have spoken a lot about professionalism, reputation and integrity. One of the things it’s clear the profession needs to do is come together as a group to show a united front. We need to show unity, collaboration, togetherness and a willingness to work for the benefit of patients to create a profession that is better, longer lasting and significant.

One of the ways I think we can do this is by the way we meet together as groups, how we collaborate when that happens and how we offer things back, both to the public and the profession in order to encourage good practice, good work and good patient care. In a conversation with Craig Parker on the phone I realised something about the ADI Congress that I hadn’t even been aware of (and I had been asked to speak). I was speaking at this year’s congress but in a very small role on the outskirts of the main event that is going on - many of the speakers are world class and world renowned. In my discussions with Craig it became apparent that the ADI are trying to do something different as well as the main event, something wonderful and hugely ethical. They are running a patient awareness section of the congress to allow patients to come, free of charge (obviously), to find out more about dental implants and to see if it’s something they might be interested in. This is in fact one of the social responsibilities charity should undertake.

But now to the point… I have been asked to speak in a GDP update programme and you can see the flyer above (you will need to access the web version of this blog if you are reading via email) This is for General Dental Practitioners who might be interested in implant dentistry, to show them how it can be of huge benefit, not only to their patients which is the most important thing, but also to themselves and to their teams. A way that we can push dentistry forwards in the UK to make it better for everyone involved. There is a great programme and it would be a great opportunity for someone who isn’t involved in implant dentistry to see what an exceptional implant congress looks like. It’s 4.5 hours of CPD at the ExCel in London and you even get your lunch! I hope anyone who may be interested in this and reads it would like to come along. Or other people might share it with colleagues who might be interested.

There are worse things to do on a Friday afternoon! If you want anymore details from me then just reply to this blog and I’ll be happy to pass on information.
