Last Tuesday saw the end of our year long course in implant dentistry at The Campbell Academy and a sad day it was too.
The guys who have been on that course this year have become friends more than course delegates and we've had the most amazing time throughout the whole year, both on the didactic and surgical teaching days and in the online chat room that we set up using the Slack forum.
The chat room has been one of the most amazing revelations for The Campbell Academy; watching it grow for these guys as a living, breathing thing to allow them to share experiences, ideas and triumphs and failures, it has been as much part of the learning experience as any of the formal teaching.
The Slack room for these guys now shuts down and they change into an 'alumni' Slack group where people who have done our year long courses will enter on to to be able to collaborate with each other for years to come.
It's time to set up a new Slack group for next year.
October becomes the time when we start to talk about delegates for the course for next year for the 12 places that we have to take people through the first year of didactic implant training together with concurrent mentoring to enter them into a 5-year pathway to get them to 50 implants per year as soon as possible.
I have no doubts that the vast majority of the guys who finish the year long course will be at 50 a year within a short period of time. It might be unlikely we will get such a good group ever again who are so committed, skilled, ethical and into their work but I hope we can.
So I guess this is it.
