TBOB 4 – Clinician Revenue Analysis

Colin
by Colin on 07/11/16 18:00

I have blogged about several subjects in relation to the business of dentistry the last few weeks to showcase some of the thing that will be discussed in our up coming dental business course.

One of the main financial indicators we have found in the development of our finances over the past few years has been our clinician revenue analysis. With an extensive spreadsheet based around each individual clinician in the practice we were able to (in a non-threatening way) target them on their clinician revenue throughout the year. This is a relatively easily calculatable tool where we look historically at the previous gross of the individual clinician on a day by day basis (this is staggeringly predictable) and then have a meeting with the clinician around March time each year and nail down exactly how many days they intend to work in the next year. During that meeting we also offer any assistance they might require such as equipment or systems to help them increase their gross without affecting the quality of work on their patients. Having done this we are able to budget them throughout the year and to keep track on if they are on target. This is not a means by which to hit them and ask them to do worse dentistry at a faster rate, it's a means to see that everything is ok and there is no problem. You can highlight issues before they become significant and they can be addressed easily.

It's a really good way to discuss business with associates and to keep them on track within the practice. It also, incidentally, demonstrates to clinicians why it's really unlikely that anybody is worth 50% of their overall gross when they see what is spent within the overall organisation.

If you want to find out anymore about this the we will be teaching about it extensively on our business course.

The Business of Business Course

This course is a year long business course with six two-day modules.

It is anticipated that Practice Principals will attend with their Practice Managers (although this is not exclusively the case).

The cost of the course includes a place for two people to attend with additional places available on separate modules for people with those skills within the practice.

The course includes access to an online discussion forum and four detailed online exercises to be carried out on a time limited basis. It also includes five working course dinners and a celebratory dinner, all at exceptional venues around Nottingham.

The cost of the course (inclusive of VAT) is £12,000.
