At this time of year, my tendency would be to write about moderation.
As I walk around the shops (not very much) or see adverts of TV it just all looks a bit mad. We descend into this frenzy of gluttony in the hope of putting on as much weight as possible before January so that we hate ourselves in the hardest month of the year.
It all goes to prove that, in the end, more is not necessarily better.
In his much referenced latest book, Malcolm Gladwell explains this concept beautifully describing class sizes, law enforcement and other scenarios where it is clear that too much is bad and too little is bad and there is a spot in the middle that works.
In my own field of work (placing dental implants) I think this may well be the case also. There is probably a number (and it may well be different for everybody where you are at your optimum, too few would be to de-skill or to not gain enough experience and too many would be to hate the sight of dental implants but to be placing them to maintain a lifestyle. Reference this against Andre Agassi, who in his biography explains how, when he first met Steffi Graf, he told her the secret that he held about hating tennis, to whic Graf replied "doesn't everybody?"
I guess if you hit enough tennis balls you might well get fed up of tennis and if you place enough dental implants you might well get fed up of those too!
For some time now I have targeted 250 - 300 implants a year and anymore than that I hope to give to someone else in my practice.
