Last year we had a major bleed from a sinus graft during surgery.
On revisiting the scan again it is possible to see the sinus vessels in the buccal wall. You can see the position of these and assess the risk of the bleed more clearly.
This came to me when I was in Bern on the Master Class in January when they were showing us these vessel walls during a CBCT lecture. Now, when I report all CBCTs for a sinus graft, one of the things I check is vessels in the wall. It doesn’t mean that there will be a bleed but it gives me a heads up before I do the surgery that there is an increased risk.
