Balancing

Sometimes I look back at what I have written previously and really don't like it.

Circumstances or information have changed and in the light of a new perspective what I put down here doesn't seem the right thing anymore.

Writing each day and committing to writing each day has changed things, at least for the present time and I am now much more at the mercy of events and feelings that are in my face right here and right now.

I wrote yesterday about how hard it was to fit in the writing of these daft little pieces on a day by day basis with everything going on around me at home and then when I get the chance to write I am subject to the influence of the emotions and experiences of everyone around me.

As I sat to write today I got a message from my friend, one of my best friends, about a terrible thing that happened to him and his family recently.

It made me change this whole piece before I had even started. I guess that is the double edged sword of writing a thing like this.

Might have been easier to have a sabbatical from blogging too........but I didn't.

The vast majority of us carry our woes and our troubles with us wherever we go. We put a game face on (mostly) and get on with this thing we do because, well because it seems we have no choice.

Distraction allows us some respite from the troubles because we don't think about them when we are busy.

Most of us, I think, have managed to develop strategies to deal with troubles or tragedies past that allow us to function pretty well on a day by day basis.

Others are not so fortunate.

Theirs is to have no respite, no distraction.

Theirs is to look their trouble in the face as soon as they awake. Right there as they open their eyes right in front of them.

"Good morning I'm still here"

For the rest of us who have the privilege of achieving distraction and some type of peace, at least in part of our life, the responsibility is to achieve balance.

Privilege always brings a responsibility.

Balance brings contentment and it brings prosperity and it allows progress.

Balance is a road to individual happiness.

Perfect balance is un-achievable in my view. It is a game, a challenge, it is an untouchable prize where the object is to play and not to win.

Just as you feel you are getting close the rules change again and it is miles away, regroup, redouble your efforts and start again.
We must continue to strive to achieve the balance, for everyone around us. I think balance allows us to create space to think of the really important things like respect and tolerance and integrity and honesty and love and friendship.

Above all I think seeking and finding some balance allows us the chance to help, just a tiny bit, those who walk with heartache and pain with every foot step and have no opportunity to find its themselves (at the moment).

I think that being in a position to genuinely offer help to others in those circumstances is probably one of the greatest measures of success we have and driving to achieve balance in our lives is to only route.
