A little tradition of mine...

I have a notice board at work; there is a picture of it attached to the blog. It's empty now, because I emptied it just before Christmas.

I put the notice board up behind my desk when we built the practice for, I'm not quite sure why.

And then I started just to put things of significance behind me at my desk so that I could look at them when I came in, things that I've done this year, things that were special or meant something to me. Maybe it was a thank-you card from a particular patient, or a picture that a child had drawn for me, or a name badge from a congress that I had attended, or any number of things.

It makes me smile when I take it down at the end of the year, because I often get to the end of the year and think that nocturns has happened and then it has, and millions has happened, and I take all the little things of significance off, and I put them in an envelope with the year written on the front and I put it away.

I've been doing this since we got here, actually, since before we got here in the last practice, and I've never reopened the envelopes yet, like a time capsule, I think.

I always say to myself that I'll open them back up again when I'm old, sat in my chair, can't move to remind me of the places I've been, or the people I've met, or the things I've seen, but it's more than that more important It's wiping away the air to start with the next one.

Understanding that every January, we start from scratch.

Another opportunity to prove ourselves.

Another opportunity to be a little bit better.

Another opportunity to be the people that we said we would be.

Not too high with the highs, not too low with the lows.

Don't forget the past, but don't dwell on it; the future's over there.
