I've seen this many times and I’ve been thinking about it a bit lately.
Many years ago Andy Warhol said that everyone would search for 5 minutes of fame and it seems we have reached that stage.
It used to be that people would chase income and then search for recognition, it now seems that people need income and recognition side by side and together.
It used to be that people would gain recognition for the deeds that they have done.
It now seems that people want recognition for the income they have made regardless of the deeds that they have done to gain the income.
You can chase the income or you can chase the recognition but apart from the very few, chasing both is liable to get you neither and chasing income is unlikely to gain you recognition, or certainly not the recognition you crave.
Doing what you love, making a difference to the world and the people around you in a positive and constructive way, is the most likely way to gain the recognition that you crave.
Once gained, the income will follow but it is likely that the income that you require to feel satisfied following the achievement of the recognition you have gained will be less therefore allowing you to strive to gain more recognition.
‘Look at me I’m rich, now can I be famous’ is old and wearing a bit thin.
