There was an article in the BBC recently about the legal case that was brought against Ed Sheeran for allegedly stealing inspiration from someone else’s music, you can read the article here.
In the link Ed Sheeran presents his short case on a video after the case was completed to say how unjust it is for people to be able to come at musicians whenever they want and put them through expensive and long-running court cases where they suggest there is evidence that intellectual property or creative property has been stolen in the guise of notes put together in a song.
Ed Sheeran was trying to explain to everyone how difficult court cases are and how unfair they feel.
No sh*t Ed.
We live in a country where anyone can sue anyone for anything and in fact, there is quite a lot of things still in place which allow anybody in the general public to have a go at anybody in healthcare with minimal or no loss by the accusing individual and ridiculous and catastrophic loss by the ‘defendant’.
Conditional fee agreements in law meant that for the cost of a small insurance policy patients could have a go at any healthcare professional at any time for pretty much anything with almost no recourse.
It would be nice to explain to Ed that this type of stuff has been happening to us in healthcare for 2 decades and nobody seems to be doing anything to stop that now.
The flip side of this of course is when things happen which are entirely unjust, but the law just refuses to act.
And so, back to the blog from earlier on in the week about the travellers that we had on our site.
The disruption (on our private land that we own), the mess, the filth, but worst, the general and absolute horribleness of the people that were there and their intent to cause conflict and be aggressive and upsetting and horrible, seemingly has no recourse whatsoever in law.
These people can send their children to smash up cars, they can pull up plants, they can leave rubbish, they can put shopping trolleys around car parks, and they can break and enter into buildings and the police do not want to know.
If my son was to come onto your drive, jump on the roof of your car and then smash the wingmirrors off and smash the windscreen with a crowbar and you were to video that, call the police and tell them that the boy lived at my house. Do you think they would come to my house?
How seriously do you think they would take that?
Is that because I’m an easy target?
The law is complicated and difficult and in some places one law effectively contradicts another but for most of us sat here at the bottom end, it’s often completely impossible to understand.
