On the 31st of January 2020 I dressed up in some fancy gear and walked through a building site which was our new Clinic and Academy up the stairs to present a master class in aesthetic implant dentistry to around about 28 people.
In many ways it was an extraordinary day and one which I almost didn’t notice at all.
There are videos from that day which we did for social and Gurmit, our video guy, was here collecting stuff for marketing and there’s an interview of me talking about what it’s like to open the Clinic (amongst a building site and carnage) and telling everybody that anything else from here was a bonus while meaning that I suspected we were all going to die.
In the lead up to that it had been absolutely horrendous in terms of the financial implication, the builders and being let down by professionals all across the board. The main bridge in Nottingham was closed because it was going to fall down, and no one could reach the practice and the site had been blown apart by winds.
In the following few weeks Raj Nansi, our periodontist had an accident which meant he nearly lost his finger and an endodontist who was coming to work with us who decided not to come because he didn’t trust us, and many other things happened whilst the virus started to spread around the world.
At the end of the 31st of January master class some of the team came into the Academy with the delegates and a video was played of people wishing us good luck in the new Clinic which had been made secretly without me knowing and was previewed to me right there and then.
It was that time where I ‘lost the plot’ on stage again and my wife and my children were there, and it was all quite emotional.
After that, we closed and died and then were reincarnated and where we are now bears almost no resemblance to where we were then except for the fact that the Aesthetic master class goes again on the 30th September.
It’s funny because I was so proud of presenting a master class in our own Academy for the very first time and the feedback was brilliant, and I thought it was great, but I’ve looked at it again and as is the way with these things it’s had to be massively updated and massively renewed from some of the evidence that’s come out and some of the stuff, we’ve learned from extraordinary people including Rony Jung.
And so, this September the Aesthetic master class happens again and so, if you’ve ever put an implant in aesthetically and not been happy with the result or you’ve ever wondered whether to go immediate or delayed, or you’ve questioned which material to use or which technique with that material or you wonder what the direction of aesthetic implant dentistry is, then it would be well worth your while having a look at this because you will get things from this which will change your practice and improve your outcomes.
I’m not quite sure what I’ll wear (maybe the same as last time just to do it justice) but it will be an altogether different event and I promise there will be no tears (probably).
