Real people will disappoint you

The trouble with online pornography (and normal ‘decent’ people don’t want to talk about this but when you have a 14 year old son, you at least have to be aware of the possibility of it’s use) means that after accessing that type of material, real world interactions might be disappointing.

The same principle obviously applies to Facebook.

It’s amplified enormously by Instagram.

Peoples lives are presented in the way that they choose to present them and in a controlled and sterilised environment runs the risk of real disappointment when you’re face to face with someone in a human interaction.

You can argue that human interactions are decreasing and as ‘everything goes online’ we will need less of these real world skills to get on.

As these skills become more and more rare though, they become more and more valuable.

The automated ‘bot’ on the website is all well and good to filter out people that are not particularly interested.

The quicker you can get face to face with someone though, and make a promise, the quicker you can get on with keeping your promise.

More and more we outsource our idea of what a normal sex life or friendship or house or holiday or skin colour or hairstyle or smile looks like.

The more we do this, the more we are likely to be disappointed in real life.

We still live our majority life in real life, at least for a while.
