One of the difficult things about building the practice and the business park that we’re just about to fully complete is that it drags me away (enormously) from the work I like to do.
Just sifting through emails this morning after a quick bike ride in the shed and I had a message from one of my referring dentists about two cases to chat about, a message from reception about a lady who wants to return to see me with quite a complicated cases who’s now ready to begin treatment after a year of consideration and I’ve also been invited to lecture on sinus grafting (digitally) for an ITI Study Club in London.
This is the really good and wonderful stuff and I must never forget that the reason that I went through the mill with the rest of the stuff (and the stuff that hits me day-to-day) is to give myself the chance to work in the way that I want and in the place that I want.
Many of the other emails are consumed by building queries and aspects of practical completion (about a term for the end of the building project), service charges, planning, lease arrangements etc etc.
This stuff is running out now and gets less and less each day but I will look back and wonder how I managed to process that stuff which in truth I really do not love.
For all of us it’s important to understand that there is stuff that we have to do in order to facilitate the stuff that we want to do but the stuff we have to do should never outweigh the stuff that we want to do too much or else that leads to unhappy people.
