As part of the group of holiday blogs I thought it was worth sharing here (yet again) the idea of writing down your perfect week.
I went to Cornwall as I’ve mentioned in the blogs but 10 years ago I was there as well.
I was training for my first ever half iron triathlon and I fell down the stairs from the flat.
I remember panic phone calls with Carl (Dunstan) asking how I’d be able to recover and what I’d be able to do.
It turned out I wasn’t ready in any event and it was a blessing in disguise but it meant that I got to stay in the flat as other people left for hours at a time because I couldn’t walk properly and I could write my ’10 year plan’.
Literally, that was 10 years ago this month and I was able to return to that again whilst I was in Cornwall.
I was able to start the process of writing another one which should be finished around the significant birthday in January and then what to do with that?
Once I’ve completed that I’m going to look at next year (2022) and decide how to exercise year 1 in a 10 year plan. Not rigidly, not in some sort of ridiculous and structured way but just something that keeps me on the track that I wanted to be on.
I’ll take where I was at 50 and where I was at 40 and add it in to what would seem like a good place to be at 60.
A 10 year plan will become a 1 year plan followed by a perfect week.
A 10 year plan is only a collection of around 520 weeks so, to start to decide how your week will be, in an ideal world, becomes a good place to start.
The next 10 years will be about health and that’s no surprise and no huge continence but it came at a time where I learnt last week of one of my really close friends and mentors who suffered a heart attack really suddenly and unexpectedly last week.
It’s funny that as I look back to the last 10 year plan I’m not sure I ever achieved a perfect week but I did smash most of the plan out of the park.
The emphasis this time will be on things that are different.
