I watched Interstellar again on this trip.
I'd only actually seen it once, but Callum and other people rave and rave about it, and so I thought I'd go back in it again, knowing the story, having seen it before (that's often what you have to do with Christopher Nolan movies, isn't it?
It's an extraordinary movie, deep, complicated, and scientifically mental but there is a scene your McConaughey is talking to one of his crew on the ship where, he says about the time that he realised that all he could do was to become a memory for his Children.
He said that's what all parenting was: to become a memory for your children.
It's such a profound and acute observation that it struck me hard again.
I think that's it, isn't it?
It's not just parenting, though, it's example setting for anyone.
What you have to do is make people feel.
If you are trying to convince someone of something, teach them, or even sell them something (God help us), it's not about what you say or do; it's about how you make them feel.
That's the memories for your Children.
That's how your values transfer to your Children and how they get their own.
