If you've ever read or watched The Da Vinci Code which was initially written by Dan Brown, you understand the concept of symbology.

Art and culture tell us a story all the time through the metaphors that they present and the symbols that they leave.

The Da Vinci Code was a brilliant entry into popular culture of the concept of the symbols left in art.

The fascinating thing though, is that symbols continue to be left everywhere and if you take a minute to read, to look or to listen, you will see that there is a message in almost everything you hear.

I am amazed by how few people seem to hear the words to songs even though they seem to be able to sing them back.

Of late, on the bike and even in the garage with Carl (and I think much to his disgust) I’ve reverted back to some of the songs from The Greatest Showman (my guilty pleasure and the best musical production never to receive an Oscar I think) and in particular ‘From now on’.

Listening to the words to  ‘From now on’ as sung by Hugh Jackman took me back to ‘Ray of Light' by Madonna and joined the dots between both of those two productions where famous people, with big brains and huge talent try to repeat the message that ‘money can’t buy you love’.

I’m sure there was a famous band from the 60’s who said that too.

Despite how many times these artists continue to remind us of the truth which underpin our lives, we seem unable to take the message.

The next time you hear a song on the radio and you find yourself tapping your feet, why not listen to the f*ck@ng words and once you hear them ‘why not actually hear them’.

The world around us is quite extraordinary if we can only take a minute to actually look.
