Knowing your audience

On the 6th of November The Campbell Clinic will host it’s (almost) fancy-dress charity ball for the sixth time in seven years.

As a rough fag packet economics calculation, by the end of the night the ball itself will have raised approximately £75,000 for charities and good causes through that period to add to the hundreds of thousands of pounds that we at The Campbell Clinic/Academy have been able to donate to charities and good causes through our 1% of turnover for our social legacy project.

We had to take a punt on this ball because we lost deposits last year through the covid shambles where the hotel which was not very kind and we switched to The Crowne Plaza but had to take a punt and put a non-refundable deposit down to host the ball.

That’s beginning to look like quite a good punt because around about 160 people will get together again for an amazing event where people put the most extraordinary amount of effort in to dressing up and having fun and raising money for people who have less than them.

We’re so lucky with the support that we get both from local practices and local businesses to help us put this together and to put prizes together for some of the raffles and games that we have and this year one of our long, long-term partners (23 years in partnership with me) , NSK and the lovely people there have donated one of their brand-new product line of Osseo 100+ ISQ monitors for implant dentistry.

This is of no use to you unless you provide implant surgery but you can still read the blog because there’s more sense or nonsense to come.

The Osseo 100+ is an ISQ (implant stability quotient) measuring device which uses radio frequency waves to measure how stiff and well integrated an implant is either immediately after placement or after an appropriate healing time.

We’ve used ISQ measuring in the practice for a long time and I have personally used it in my implant practice for 15 years.

We ISQ anything that we place immediately and any time that we place a simultaneous sinus graft and in various other areas.

The NSK device is clever, most notably because the pegs that we use for inserting into the implants to measure can go through the autoclave and therefore can be cleaned and reused for different patients.

It’s an expensive bit of kit but the lovely people at NSK have donated 1 as a prize for the raffle and so this is the ‘know your audience point’.

Whilst I appreciate that getting one of these devices for free might be attractive for the likes of me and some of the other people at the ball, it’s probably not particularly attractive to my mate Phil who works in printing and who will be sat at my table or even to one of my daughters who will be at the ball (should they win it), unless of course I buy it from them.

So, to that end, we’ve decided to put it up for silent auction on our social media for the Academy and to view the auction follow the link to our instagram here.

It’s pretty simple and you just need to read the description or watch the video and then DM us your bid and the person who bids the most can have it.

You’re likely to get it at an absolute steal and if you’re using ISQ measurements at the moment then this might be the device you want to start to use and if not you might want to start using it in those particular cases that I’ve listed above.

I can just picture the scene as one of Alison’s friends who works as a nurse walks up to the raffle at the ball to collect her Osseo 100+ instead of a Paul Smith handbag!

Know your audience and many people in this audience could do with an extremely cheap offer on one of these machines.
