If you don't ask...

The further I move through life, with the different hats that I wear and the jobs that I do (football coach, school governor, ITI editor, or business owner), the more I realise that if you're not prepared to have the conversation, that is difficult, and the problems tend to get worse and worse.

While I understand that there are times when it is best to leave well enough alone, it really isn't acceptable to do that because it is the line of least resistance or, because the conversation makes you uncomfortable or because you're worried that the other person might react in a way which will make you feel less good about yourself.

Difficult conversations are the essence of making things better.

Avoiding difficult conversations on the basis that it's best to leave them alone and that they might fix themselves is cowardice.

We make the best progress by being open, honest, and kind and listening to someone else's point of view when we do that.

If you don't ask, you are very unlikely to get; if you do ask, it might open the door to possibilities you couldn't see before.
