One of the things which concerns me the most about the changes in society that we’ve encountered over the last few months is the impending loss of humanity.

There have been many things to worry about this year and perhaps for me since the end of last year with everything to do with the move at work and the massive effort that it took.

But underlying all of this is the change that we are encountering and the loss of connection with the people that we know, that we love and that we’ll come to know in the future.

Wearing a mask is so much more devastating to social contact than people actually appreciate.

Distancing children at school and not allowing them to interact is so much more devastating than we understand.

Pretending that electronic communication via Zoom works as well as face-to-face contact work is insane.

I’ve been able to sit face-to-face with people I know and don’t know in a teaching environment recently as we open things back up here and everybody that we've encountered immediately appreciates the benefit of human contact over electronic substitute contact.

Perhaps the race towards “how do we stay at home and continue to work and earn money to spend on things that we don’t need?” needs to be re-framed to “how do we adapt our society to retain the degree of humanity that we require?”.
