I remember an old analogy about amalgam (metal) fillings from years ago.
You could have a dentist who'd done a million of those and still be sh*t at them because they'd never looked at the ones they'd done, the ones that broke, or the ones that had fallen out.
Similarly, I've met some clinicians who've done a staggeringly small amount of clinical work who are utterly brilliant (I saw somebody with the capability for this last week).
This is someone who reflects immediately on everything they do and never makes the same mistake more than once or twice.
Doing lots of something a lot of times with your eyes shut will never make you better.
Facing up to things that aren't right or that go wrong, or that don't pan out the way you would have wanted and having insight into the why and the how of that is where the value exists.
Applying any experience, you have to help someone else not make your mistakes or to make less of your own mistakes is one of the most valuable, beautiful things to encounter.
