Dismissing the worldview problem

I was too expensive for someone the other day, when they came to see me in the Practice.

They came with a senior family member for advice about something, that we are very good at (highly regarded in some quarters and by some dentists, but not by all).

I talked them off the edge and suggested a much more, straight forward approach, than they had been expecting and they were delighted, until the cost came out.

In their mind, in their worldview, it was half of what I said and that was a terrible thing.

It’s hard, because when people don’t see the value, where you see the value, there is a clash of worldviews.

You feel disappointed and upset that they cannot see the world in the way that you see it, but that is of course, the world.

I thought about this later, as I was sat on Central avenue in West Bridgford, with Callum having breakfast after a bike ride.

I looked around and saw how many places there were to have breakfast and wondered why we chosen, where we were.

I could have had breakfast, somewhere cheaper or I could have had breakfast somewhere closer, but I had breakfast here because I’ve had it before.

It came recommended and it’s safe and I know what I’m getting, and it works.

Not everybody chose to have breakfast where we was sat.

As soon as you understand that what you’re trying to do is work with people who share your worldview, then it gets even easier.

You get over the disappointment’s quicker over the people who don’t share it, and you get to work on finding the people that do.
