Some years ago, when we were well into the cinema club thing with Stuart and I seeing a film every month and that someone else would choose on alternate months, I used to write about them here to share them with other people.

I also did a thing where I did 12 for 12, which was 12 albums, 12 books and 12 films in 2012 (that's how old the blog is now).

I'm not suggesting I'm going to do 23 for 23 but I think that the Cinema Club films that we see are just worth sharing here because they might give one or two people a heads up on something that you could go to, which will bring you a lot of joy.

And so, the December Cinema Club film was Brian and Charles, and it was my choice.

We went to the Broadway Cinema in Nottingham, which is the art house cinema, and it was really nice to see that one of the main cinema rooms in there had been done up with comfier seats to try and match the Showcase cinema, which is the big American conglomerate place that we usually go to.

I couldn't find a decent film in December, it's usually difficult to find decent films in December in the cinema, and we know that from years of experience.

And so, I went to see one from the summertime, which was replayed in the Broadway.

That is the joy of cinemas like this is that they have the opportunity just to replay films, which were a big success, and it was only on for one night and the cinema was full.

We got the tram into town and had a Five Guys milkshake, walked through the Christmas market and then went up to see Brian and Charles with a cup of tea.

That is a beautiful movie, independently made, Film4, set in South Wales.

It's the second Film4 film in a row that we’ve seen after we saw Living with Bill Nighy the previous month (that's another brilliant movie).

Brian and Charles is a fairy-tale, a little bit like Edward Scissorhands or Pinocchio.

It's about a weird guy who's a little bit of a loner whose kind at heart who makes a robot out of a washing machine and a doll's head, and what happens is the robot starts to ‘grow up’.

It's a love story and a battle against a bully and just beautiful to look at because it really captures what South Wales looks like, feels like and seems like I think.

It has a wonderful ending and warms your heart that lovely films like this do.

If you see it anywhere or it's on your streaming service, click on it and watch it with someone that you care about.

It's a gift.
