Part of this week's entertainment following my return from Singapore is starting to write a three-year plan for the ITI Academy and what we hope to achieve by the time we hit our next world symposium (assuming I'm still in a job, and that's a big assumption).
It's 1872 weeks until we go again, and this week has passed in a flash.
Remembering that the ITI job is my second job, a volunteer position amongst other volunteer positions, and my main job is to keep everybody safe, secure and well at The Campbell Clinic and Campbell Academy; it would be worth thinking about what to do over the next 1872 weeks there, wouldn't it?
Assuming that I can only do that job at The Campbell Clinic and Campbell Academy (and the ITI and at CP Riverside and West Bridgford Colts, etc.) unless I'm well, it would be worth thinking what the Colin Campbell of 1872 weeks later would look like.
Assuming that I would like my family around me to help support me, guide me, and bring me the joy that they usually do, it might be worth wondering what they would look like in 1872 weeks, too.
It might be worth dreaming and future-scoping, imagining where you would be, what it would look like, and what you would consider to be a really successful use of your 1872 weeks. Then, maybe write that down. Once you've written it down for your family and for yourself (if those are the most important things to you), you could write it down for the other things in your life.
And once you've done that, you could say, Well, that's a three-year plan, so by the end of year one, it would be ideal if I was here and two here and three-year (understanding that no battle plan ever stands contact with the enemy) and then you could leave your two and three to sort themselves out.
And you could divide your one into months (after dividing it into quarters).
And then when you woke up on a Monday, you could say, Well, what am I going to do this week in one of my 1872 weeks to get me to the end of the month in good shape that will get me to the end of the quarter in good shape that will get me to the end of the year in good shape that will get me there.
It's not massively complicated to do this (in fact, I find it a joy).
No battle plan stands etc, etc.
You will get distracted, and shiny, bright objects will appear off the path, but if you can give yourself a little bit of space in quiet without doom, scrolling someone else's life, it's possible to make a plan for a better place.
Honestly, every time I've done this, I've ended up in a better place than I imagined, despite the fact that there have been some tragedies and traumas along the way.
It's always worked for me; it will probably always work for you; it's just whether you have the guts and the time and the energy and generally can be arsed to do it.
You can avoid it; you can say this is facile sh*t, and I have the stuff to do, but you cannot possibly go on a journey and expect to get to the destination of your choice without a map.
You can explore the adventure if you like, but you may end up in a place that you wish you hadn't got to.
