Ten years time

Ten years from now, the world might be…

1. Warmer. The climate crisis will be in full effect, and things will look different.

2. Flying on a plane will be much more expensive, and travelling will have to be considered more compassionately.

3. Eating meat will be a luxury once a week.

4. Raspberries and strawberries on Christmas Day will literally cost the earth.

5. 70% of the adult population in the United Kingdom will be classified as obese.

6. The gap between the haves and the have-nots in the Western world will be catastrophic and almost insurmountable.

Ten years in dentistry…

1. Private dentistry in the United Kingdom will have grown exponentially.

2. The middle classes and above will only access their care through private dentistry.

3. Digital parts of dentistry will enhance the experience, improve the workflow and change the world for dentists at the cutting edge.

4. Development of exceptional dental teams will be completely normal, and people who don't develop outstanding dental teams will have lost in such a big way.

5. NHS dentistry in the United Kingdom will be a shadow of its former self and will only look after people on the lowest rungs of the ladder (that is correct, but it won't be good).

6. Working in the NHS for most people will seem impossible.

Ten years for me…

Considering all the points above, I now have the opportunity to plan where and who I should be in the next ten years.

1. I might be dead, so there is nothing to worry about.

2. If I'm still around, I want to make sure I am as fit and healthy as possible to continue to work in the way that I do and with the people I do.

3. I want to enhance the opportunities that come my way, including technological, psychological and physiological, to make things better, to make me stronger, to make me sharper and to keep me as motivated as possible.

4. I want to be preparing myself for working for another 25 years after that ten years.
