Wisdom vs Youth

It's an age-old tenet: the difference between wisdom and youth; the older we get, the more we wish we were young, but the more knowledge we have to deal with the world.

The younger we are, the faster we are, but the less ability we have to navigate the world in a sensible fashion because we've not made enough mistakes yet.

I still remember it, looking at the slow old guys and wondering what value they had, why they hadn't stopped or got out of the way. Now I look back, seeing the young guys who think that about me, and I shake my head quietly, wishing they would understand.

Youth is absolutely wasted on the young, isn't it? Robbie Williams was right.

But as I get older, and a bit slower, and a bit more tired, I can call on the experience I have from all of the crazy s**t things that I've been able to do, and if not help myself to navigate better, at least help someone else who's faster and more agile.

It's never about the difference between the two; it's about combining the two together.

I work with some of the most extraordinary, talented and energetic young people.

My job is to try, at least, to pass on a little bit of the knowledge about the mistakes that I made; I'll settle for that until I'm finished.
