When it all goes wrong

We repeatedly fantasise about how things will work out in our favour, about how great it will be when ‘we are finished’ (whatever that might mean).

When we start something complicated, though, when we start something challenging, it is probably best to also think about what happens in the worst-case scenario.

Catastrophization is one of the tools I use the most to get me through life (along with compartmentalisation).

Going to the worst-case scenario of something gives you the strength to go further than that. It gives you the vision and the strength to carry on through the project that you know will be difficult, understanding that if you can deal with the very worst part of it, everything else is a bonus.
