Today on our year two course as it comes to an end, we've all become friends and we can talk about things to do with implant dentistry and beyond.
I had the opportunity to present one of the best cases I've ever done, which is a lower right first molar immediate implant case for my wife, in which I did a CEREC produced custom healing abutment to produce one of the best results I’ve ever achieved.
We had a conversation about why I didn't carry on in that pathway of doing individual custom healing abutments, milled in the practice to dazzle patients and get these great results.
But the truth is, I got distracted down another path.
In another world now I would be travelling around all over the place for Sirona showing people how to do this and showing cases (like the one I've got of Alison) with extraordinary results seven years on but I'm busy doing something else.
I made a decision to try and influence more people in what I felt was a better way rather than running down the path of personal glory, trying to invent a new system which would almost certainly be overtaken by people who were bigger and stronger and more powerful than me.
I think it's worth remembering that we probably all have a billion other paths we could take, and it's fine to change tack to go after something else.
We should just do that consciously understanding that to do that, we're giving up the path that we're on.
H T (hat tap) to Sharan for producing this blog in collaboration with me.
