Vincent

This week we hosted ‘Vincent Fehmer’ for a Master Class and ITI Study Club.

Vincent is known as the master technician from the University of Geneva, working with his wife Professor Irena Sailer who took over from the legendary Urs Belser in the restorative department at Geneva.

Vincent is a legend and one of the nicest guys you’re ever likely to come across.

He was desperate to come to the new clinic and to see us and has been in touch with us for almost a year but sadly we had to cancel this face-to-face due to Switzerland’s quarantine situation and he did his talks on Zoom.

One of the fascinating things and insights that it was clear to see was that Vincent doesn’t place dental implant and neither does he prepare teeth.

He doesn’t fit crowns or do any other aspect of dentistry.

Vincent is an utterly brilliant technician who focuses on all aspects of his technical work and the research and teaching associated with his technical work and that’s what makes him brilliant.

He doesn’t stray outside of his area because he doesn’t have time, because he’s too busy focusing deep down on the stuff that he loves and what’s important to him.

He works 2 days a week at the University of Geneva and 3 days a week renting a room in a private lab to make ‘ends meet’.

That’s how success is done.

Tempting for all of us to think that some of these guys who are the best at what they do also have the happiest lives and the biggest cars and the best holidays and the fanciest watches but more often than not; those things don’t go hand in hand.
