Perhaps it took me the process of partly emptying my mum and dad's house to understand the value of (or lack of) trinkets.
I'm reminded of a story that I may have told here before of a friend of mine who's sadly passed now, whose father was religious and collected a library of religious pamphlets throughout his whole life.
He catalogued them, stored them, presented them on shelves, and after his death, no one knew quite what to do with them.
No one wanted them. They're invaluable to anyone. They couldn't be sold or even given away, and then what?...
So many of the things that we covet, that we keep close to us, are really of no use to anyone else (actually probably no use to us).
You know how fast the shine wears off a trinket; you understand this.
It's rare that people get something of value that they continue to covet it after they've had it.
Generally, in order to get the rush, they need another one, or a bigger one, or a better one a short time later.
It's definitely worth the effort of pushing back against the urge to collect as many trinkets as she can.
