A week on Saturday it’s the seventh Campbell Clinic charity ball, the ‘alphabet ball’.
The idea is that you come as a character or object with the initial of your first name.
For me, something that begins with C.
C is the hardest one in the alphabet (or at least it feels like that for me) so, answers on a postcard (in the comments below) to give me an idea of what to turn up as.
I’ve lost count of how much money the charity ball has raised but it’s between £75,000-£100,000 and it feels like a good thing to do but maybe it is and maybe it isn’t.
There is a school of thought that says we should just donate the money and try to get everyone else to donate the money and give that away and not buy costumes from Amazon or drink too much or eat too much or travel to the venue.
But there’s also a school of thought that says people won’t do that, not at that scale, unless you put something together and bring them together and flick their switch and make them donate.
I think probably the answer goes something like this.
I was chatting to Tom at the Clinic today and he explained that he had all sorts of different things to do including catching up with lots of people who wanted to come on Academy courses or at least had expressed an interest, but he was stretched in different directions.
He’s working with Brooke so that she’s able to start the process of speaking to people about coming on courses at The Academy in a timely fashion and as fast as possible when the leads and enquiries come in.
And so, we decided it’s much better that Brooke phones someone than that Tom phones no one.
And it’s better that we raise some money for charity than we don’t and so, if you message me back quickly you might still get a place, but I think most of them are all gone so maybe put the first weekend in November in your diary for next year and we’ll go again.
